HOW TO MEASURE A SADDLE GULLET
HOW TO PROPLERY MEASURE A SADDLE GULLET FOR A GREAT FIT.
When looking at how to properly measure a gullet I like to take multiple measurements when looking for the right fit. The first is across the front at the conchos....this gives us an idea of the width of the bars shown in this first photo.
Second I like to measure up higher on the gullet shown in photo two, measuring both gives me an idea of how the angle of the bars are on the saddle. Some bars are steeper and some bars are flatter.
The third measurement is across the bottom of the saddle to see how wide the bars actually are. This measurement gives me an idea of how flat the bars are and on what type of horse this saddle may fit the best....the narrower this measurement = the steeper the bars...the wider this measures the flatter the bars are.
You can often times find where the bars on the saddle are by looking for the crease in the fleece and by feeling for the actual bars in the fleece. This measuerment will actually tell you how wide the bars actually are. The wider the bars are the wider the horse this saddle will fit.
